NASCAR Partners With WAX To Release 2022 Daytona 500 NFTs | Follows Candy Digital Drivers Cup Car Drop

NASCAR announced they have launched digital collectibles for Sunday’s Daytona 500. The series of limited-edition Daytona 500 NFTs were developed in collaboration with WAX.

NASCAR Announces 2022 Daytona 500 NFTs

NASCAR will mint Daytona 500 non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and 500 ticket holders can get one NFT per wallet. The stock car racing company emailed 25,000 Daytona 500 ticket holders about the planned release prior to the launch.

According to the announcement sent to News, ticket holders were given 24-hour notice to sign up for a Wax blockchain wallet so the could enter the contest. “500 NFT winners were automatically entered into a draw to win one of five autographed NASCAR driver helmets,” a representative told News.

NASCAR announced the official digital collectibles launch on February 16th. The company explained that it chose WAX because it wanted to “ensure that as many people as possible could take part in the fun of this history-making event.”

Additionally, NASCAR said the WAX blockchain network is “certified carbon neutral by ClimateCare and uses 220,000x less energy than its competitors.” Prior to this partnership with NASCAR, WAX has collaborated with other sports and game brands such as Topps, Hasbro, Mattel, and Funko.

“There’s unprecedented excitement heading into the 2022 Daytona 500, and we want to thank our fans for their continued dedication to the sport by gifting ticket holders with a free digital collectible to commemorate the Great American Race,” Tim Clark, NASCAR’s chief digital officer said in a statement sent to News. The NASCAR executive added:

Fans want to engage with brands in new and unique ways and this is another step in that process.

Daytona 500 NFTs Follow Super Bowl’s Commemorative NFT Tickets

The move by NASCAR to give Daytona 500 ticket holders NFTs follows the NFTs that were given to Super Bowl ticket holders by the NFL and Ticketmaster. The NFL gave fans virtual Super Bowl commemorative tickets so attendees could remember Super Bowl LVI forever. The NFTs included the fans’ section, row and seat number.

NASCAR’s announcement published by writer Scott Bernberg says “The Super Bowl’s got nothing on the World Center of Racing.” Furthermore, William Quigley, the CEO of WAX remarked that he believes “the WAX blockchain is the only chain fast enough to keep up with NASCAR.”

The partnership between WAX and NASCAR, follows the stock car racing company’s NFT launch with Candy Digital. Last week Candy Digital announced it was launching 23 NASCAR Cup Series vehicles called “Candy Racing Digi Casts” in a partnership agreement with Race Team Alliance.
