  • Sorare plans ‘Second Division Europe’ competition focusing on second-tier football clubs

Sorare, the blockchain-based fantasy sports game specialist is partnering with five English Football League (EFL) clubs as part of a new competition that focuses on second-tier football leagues across Europe.

The company has signed up EFL clubs Burnley, Watford, Millwall, Norwich and Coventry City. In addition, Sorare  hopes to conclude deals with the remaining 19 Championship clubs in the near future, building on it’s recent partnership with the Spanish second division, LaLiga 2.

The EFL club deals mean Sorare’s community will be able to collect, trade, and play with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) representing players from each team. The clubs will gain an additional revenue stream and fan engagement opportunity.

Sorare’s New ‘Second Division Europe’ competition

The Championship and LaLiga 2, along with the French and German second divisions, will form part of a new ‘Second Division Europe’ competition in which players will be able to test their knowledge of professional European football beyond the major leagues.

“One of the things our users enjoy most about Sorare is the chance it gives them to act as a talent scout, identifying the next breakthrough stars before anyone else,” said Michael Meltzer, head of business development at Sorare.

“Many of today’s best players began their careers outside the top five leagues, and the EFL Championship is increasingly seen globally as a great source of emerging talent, so it’s important to us that our game reflects that.

“We’re delighted to bring the EFL Championship to Sorare for the first time with these partnerships and we look forward to announcing more clubs from the league in the coming months.”

In addition to its flagship football game, Sorare has also signed deals with the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Major League Baseball (MLB) in a bid to drive interest in it’s fantasy game in North America and beyond.
